The
leader of the Bee Gees came into the comedy club where I had my very first
booking. I was working as the house
emcee at a club called "The Comedy Woom" on South Beach.
Barry and his family lived on Miami Beach, and this club was one of the
first nightclubs in the soon-to-be burgeoning South Beach scene.
Barry came in with a party of about eight people.
I was on stage at the time, but didn't want to make a big deal of Barry
having come in. But I wanted to let
him know that I knew he was there. So
I launched into a song parody of the Bee Gees song, "I Started A Joke". It was wonderful to see he and his party laughing at
the parody of his song. (I never
did get to speak with him, as he and his party left while the headliner was on
stage!) |
