President and Mrs. Carter were honored
guests at a large private party where I was booked to perform.
I wanted to find a way to include President Carter in the show.
As I began the show, I said that it was a rare opportunity for a
performer to have a U.S. President in his or her audience.
I asked the crowd's indulgence while I pulled out a camera and told
them this would only take a moment.
I
walked into the audience with the camera and asked President Carter if he would
mind taking a picture. He said,
"Sure." So I handed the camera to him, and asked him to take a
picture of me with some guy that was sitting nearby.
He took the picture, I thanked him, took the camera back from him, and
walked back to the stage to big laughs. (When
I asked him after the show if he would take a genuine picture with me, he
jokingly said, "I've already taken a picture of you!", but graciously
agreed to pose for the photo you see here.)
