My
comedy experience with Maurice Gibb, one of the famed Bee Gees, was quite
unusual. Before going into comedy
full-time, I worked as the Public Relations Director for the American Heart
Association of Greater Miami. My
staff and I organized a very novel fund-raising event called "Heartopoly,"
which was a life-size "Monopoly"-style board.
We actually built the board on a dog-racing track, and participants paid
an entry fee to become the "playing pieces" on the board.
We used a rotation of celebrity "dice
rollers" who would announce the number of spaces for the players to move.
Maurice was one of our celebrity "dice rollers", but he felt more
comfortable having me with him on the stage.
So there I was, doing "shtick" with one of the Bee Gees in front of a
huge audience. (I also learned that
his first name is pronounced "Morris", even though it is spelled
"Maurice".) |
