Over a
period of several years, I operated three different comedy clubs in Atlantic
City casinos. While operating my
club at Trump's Castle, I got a call from the Entertainment Director at Merv
Griffin's Resorts Casino. He said
that they were in discussions with Joe Piscopo to open a comedy club at Resorts,
but they had suggested to Joe that I operate and book the club for him.
I called Joe and we agreed to meet.
I was going to be in Las Vegas the following week and it was easy for me
to hop a flight to Los Angeles, where Joe lived.
I met with Joe and his fiance, and we discussed
the possibility of the comedy club. Things
seemed promising, but unfortunately Resorts rescinded the offer, and we
weren't able to open the club. But
we did have a great time meeting and sketching out what would have been a great
comedy club! (Recently, Resorts
booked Joe into their showroom-not to do comedy, but as a singing act.)
